Thanks very much to the Bluff Country Reader for printing John Whitehead's thought-provoking article, "Government violence is missing link in ongoing gun control debate," in the Jan. 14, 2013, issue. For years our foreign policy has revolved around four words, "My way or the highway," and far too often that has meant military action.
The United States, as the most powerful and influential country in the world, continues to ignore diplomacy as a means of bringing about responsible resolution of international disputes. We set the tone internationally as well as here at home. It is crucial that we get the connection between what this policy teaches and how we incorporate that policy into everyday life.
I wish Mr. Whitehead's article could be read by everyone concerned about the issue of gun violence.
