Lavona Jones, 100, of Ostrander, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014 at the Ostrander Care and Rehab.

Lavona Adel Power was born March 16, 1914 in Waubeek, Iowa to Frank and Elsie (Gaines) Power.

On July 20, 1933, she was united in marriage to Donald Jones in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She loved children and was very family oriented, being a homemaker her whole life. She also had a love for animals and took in a few stray cats throughout the years.

Traveling, going out to eat and reading were some of her favorite things to do. She will be remembered for always having to have lemon meringue pie for supper, her fun and spunky spirit, and being one of the oldest people to ever ride a Go Kart in Wisconsin Dells.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Schwinefus of Ostrander; seven grandchildren, Wade Schwinefus, Kyle Schwinefus, LaRae Miller, Sherry Drury, Judy Karsten, Randy Jones and Steve Jones; 14 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, two children, Richard and June and five siblings.

Funeral services for her were held Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley with the Rev. Melanie Greengo officiating. Burial took place at the Chester Hill Cemetery in Chester, Iowa.
