Dorothy Karen Mayer, 56, of Riceville, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at her residence, after an extended illness.
Dorothy was born in Preston, on Jan. 13, 1956, to Miner Alvin and Audrey Charlotte Berge Gudmundson. She attended local schools and graduated from Lanesboro High School. Dorothy worked for Mayo Clinic in the accounts payable department and earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. On Aug. 13, 1999, Dorothy was united in marriage to Randy Mayer at the First Lutheran Church of Highland.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Dorothy was a deeply devoted wife, grandmother, mother, sister and aunt and will be sadly missed by all.
Survivors include her husband, Randy of Riceville; a daughter, Kari Kozak of Iowa City, Iowa; a son, Karl Kozak and Angie Mihm of Waterloo, Iowa; and a stepson, Shawn and wife, Dana Mayer of Stacyville, Iowa, and their children, Brennan, Mackenzie and Rylie. Also surviving are four brothers, Maynard and Jean Gudmundson of Elysian, Jerry and Doris Gudmundson of Rushford, Karroll and Laura Gudmundson of Lanesboro and David and Chris Gudmundson of Lanesboro; a sister, Shirley Ehler of Thornton, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Jerry and Janet Mayer; a sister-in-law, Carol and Leroy Janssen; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Randy Kozak.
Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran Church of Highland in rural Lanesboro on Sept. 11 with the Rev. Pat Hinkie officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the church cemetery.
Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville was in charge of arrangements.
