Gloria Foster, 88, of Harmony, formerly of Preston, died peacefully Saturday morning, June 8, 2013, at Heritage Grove of Harmony.
She was born July 17, 1924, in Wyandotte, Mich., the daughter of Jack and Madeline (Handy) Dusham. During WW II she worked in the armament industry in Chicago where she met her first husband, Charles Knies. She and Chuck lived in Chicago and then moved to Preston in 1957. She worked in the Northwest Aluminum window factory, the Branding Iron and the Preston nursing home.
She married Stephen Foster in 1973. Following his death, she lived in the Hilo, Hawaii, area, West Salem, Wis., Lake Placid, Fla., moving back to Preston in 2005, living in the Park Lane Estates and then Heritage Grove of Harmony since 2010.
She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dancing, music, gardening, flowers, baking, walking and stock car races.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Knies Bonk of Hilo, Hawaii, and Deborah (Jon) Levendoski of West Salem, Wis.; one son, Jeff (Roxie) Knies of Preston; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Knies.
There will be a memorial service 11 a.m., on Friday, June 14, at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with the Rev. Mark Docken of the Chatfield Lutheran Church officiating. Burial of her ashes will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston.
Friends may call at the church on Friday an hour before the service.
