Liz Sanden, 79, of Mabel

Elizabeth "Liz" Virginia Sanden, 79, of Mabel, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel after a 12-and-a-half -year battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 8, 1933, in Spring Grove to Clarence and Rose (Newgaard) Storlie. She graduated from the Spring Grove High School.
On Dec. 13, 1950, she married Delmar Sanden. She worked at C & D Café and Control Data in Spring Grove, did daycare out of her home, was a teacher's aide at Mabel-Canton schools, a secretary at Green Lea Manor for 23 years and worked at Margaret's Clothing Store in Decorah.
She was an active member of Mabel First Lutheran Church and its WELCA and taught Sunday school and Bible school. She enjoyed baking, quilting, embroidering, playing cards, bowling, and shopping.
She and her husband loved dancing and were members of polka and square dancing clubs. They went on many cruises and bus trips, traveling through 48 states. They were married 62 years.
She loved the visits from the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Delmar of Mabel; four children, Dennis Sanden of Carrolton, Texas, DiAnne (Gerald) Peter of Mabel, Danny (Janet) Sanden of Mabel, and Dale Sanden of Hayfield; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Luverne) Schroeder of Spring Grove and Barb (Larry) Oefstedahl of Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, David; a sister, Marion, a brother, Clayton; and infant brother, Clifford.
Funeral services were held on Monday at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Gail George officiating.
Burial was in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery.
Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel assisted the family with arrangements.
