Meredith 'Tootie' Foster, 76, of Spring Valley

Meredith "Tootie" Burdine Austin-Foster, 76, of Spring Valley died Friday, May 3, 2013.
Tootie Foster was born to Burton and Allene Austin on July 31, 1936, on the Austin Farm in York Township, Fillmore County. She attended the Saetersdal Country School in Minnesota and also the country schools in Grass Range, Montana, and Lime Springs, Iowa. She graduated from high school in LeRoy. After graduation she married Arthur Felper from Riceville, Iowa. Shortly after they were married Mr. Felper was killed in a car accident on Thanksgiving Day while she was six months pregnant with their son, Arthur.
She then worked as a waitress in Chester, Iowa, the LeRoy Eggplant, The Up Town Club restaurant in LeRoy and the Four Winds truck stop in Spring Valley. She married Frank Foster in 1958. The couple had a grain trucking business in Spring Valley, which Tootie was very involved in. She also drove bus for the Spring Valley school district, and worked at the Red Owl and the Super Value stores in Spring Valley. She was also very active in local parades with Allie Bendickson in Spring Valley, Grand Meadow, and LeRoy.
In 1997 she opened Tootie's Little Rock Saloon in Spring Valley. She was active in local charities and did fundraising through the Little Rock Saloon with various motorcycle and snowmobile fun runs. She had three sons, Arthur, Charlie and Jim Foster.
She was preceded in death by her father, Burton Austin, her first husband, Arthur Felper, her beloved middle son, Charlie Foster, her second husband, Frank Foster, her mother, Allene "Allie" Terbeest Bendickson, her stepfather, Axel "Doc" Bendickson, and brother-in-law, Steve Foster, and sister-in-law, Ada (Turnmire) Austin.
Surviving are her brother, Jim Austin from Harmony; her two sons, Arthur "Art" Foster of Spring Valley, and Jim "Jimmy" (Laura) Foster of Spring Valley; grandchildren, Arie, Ashley, and Andy, Jessie, Brittany and Carlie Foster; great-grandchildren Kaden, Morgan, Taven and Brooklyn; nephews, Scott (Donna) and Mike (Denise) Austin, Al, Craig, Russell and Jason, Cory and Sherrie Foster; nieces, Tori Austin (Brian) Kenney, Konya Austin (Joseph) Bloomquist; in-laws, Roxanne Foster and Gloria "Duke" Foster, Bill (Marge) Foster .
The funeral was Tuesday, May 7, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. Burial was at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery. Because she was a voracious reader, attendees were invited to bring a favorite book to donate to the library in her memory.
