Orvis Grandon Johnson, 91, of Chatfield, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Faribault Care Center, where he had resided for a short time.

He was born July 21, 1921, in rural Fountain, to Peter O. and Minnie (Foss) Johnson. He graduated from Chatfield High School in 1939.

On Sept. 9, 1953, he married Shirley Bothun at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. He farmed for 20 years. He also worked for Gunderson Motors as a mechanic in Preston for 20 years.

He was a member of the Chatfield Brass Band. He loved to work on cars and to look at them. He also loved music and once he got used to it, he loved to travel. His enjoyed his grandsons, going to their activities, and talking Norwegian.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Lynette (Mike) Simser of Northfield, and Janelle (Randy) Paulson of Chatfield; four grandsons, Andrew and Adam Simser, and Alex and Aaron Paulson; one brother, Gordon (Edna) Johnson of Chatfield; and two sisters, Viola Johnson of Chatfield, and Ruth Hall of Minot, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Chatfield Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Docken officiating. Burial was in the Chatfield Cemetery.

Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield was in charge of arrangements.
