Walter Wiltgen, 88, of Harmony

Walter Wiltgen, 88, of Harmony died on March 14, 2012, at the Harmony Healthcare Center.
He was born on Nov. 6, 1923, in rural Ossian, Iowa. He was the son of William and Mary (Uhlenhake) Wiltgen. He attended Lee Country School and DeSales Parochial School in Ossian.
He was united in marriage to Betty Daniels on March 4, 1946, at Ossian DeSales Catholic Church by the Rev. Donald Weydert. He worked in various positions in the Harmony area before beginning a career with the Harmony School District as a bus driver in 1951, followed by a 26-year career as a custodian where he retired in 1986.
He loved dancing, playing cards, woodworking and traveling. He and his wife spent 22 years wintering in Arizona.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three sons, Ronald (Sharon) of Gaylord, Minn., Wayne (Mary) of Perham, Minn., and Terry (Sharon) of Rochester; two daughters, Susan (Tom) Ehlen of Farmington, Minn., and JoAnn (Stephen) McBroom of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren, Sheila (Troy) Knacke, Rhonda Cannata, Stacey Wiltgen, Stephanie Wiltgen, Brian Wiltgen, Jen (Jaime) Resop, Adam Wiltgen, Alan Wiltgen, Jennifer (Tony) Kavitz, Amanda Ehlen, Aaron (Taiesha) McBroom and Amy (Shon) Bush; 17 great-grandchildren who he loved and enjoyed immensely; one brother, Donald Wiltgen of Grand Junction, Colo., and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Wiltgen of Ossian, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred (Art) Einck and Dolores (Ben) Balvin; four brothers, Raymond, Francis, Ralph and Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 19, at the Nativity Catholic Church in Harmony. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Canton.
Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony was in charge of arrangements.
