Special education teacher Amanda Thomas had a knack for working with kids who needed special attention in school. She grew up in the Fillmore Central School system and now has become one of the five new teachers being employed at her alma mater for the upcoming school year.
The Minnesota Music Educator's Association (MMEA) recently selected performing ensembles to represent the best in K-12 music performance. These groups will be featured at the MMEA Mid-Winter Clinic, held Feb. 11 to 13, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

The Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa have placed Lindsey Weiss of Harmony as an apprentice at the Fillmore Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) office. Apprentices will spend their summer working alongside natural resource professionals to learn hands-on skills in managing soil and water resources.
Tina Barness of Ossian was recently named Minnesota Elementary School Counselor of the Year by the Minnesota School Counselor’s Association (MSCA). Barness is the daughter of the Rev. Wayne and Irmgard Ellingson; granddaughter of Thelma Ellingson of Decorah and Minna Hein of Mabel.
Over $40,000 in local scholarships were awarded to the graduating seniors of Fillmore Central during a special awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 19, at the high school.
