Amy Weldon, writer and poet, will be a guest on “Lanesboro Live” on Sunday, May 26.
The second show of "Lanesboro Live! Conversation, Comedy & Cool Jams . . ." will take place at the St. Mane Theatre on the evening of Sunday, May 26, at 7 p.m. Hosted by Damon Prestemon, the show will feature music by house band The CBB Jazz Combo, comedy, audience participation and guests, including writer/poet Amy Weldon.

The "Lanesboro Live" show is the creation of Lanesboro's talented keyboardist and vocalist Damon Prestemon, who has a reputation for being on-his-toes onstage.

Shaping the show throughout the season, he will build upon its energy - this next show will feature live mics for guests and house band leader Nathan Davidson for spontaneous interaction (David Letterman & Paul Shaffer style).

"We're building something great . . . if you like to laugh, sing, or hear a good story, come on out and join us," Prestemon said.

Weldon, an associate professor at Luther College in Decorah will serve as the special guest star.

A transplanted Alabamian with a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Weldon has settled into Iowa life, getting her students pumped about local poetry slams and author readings at the Iowa Writers Workshop, teaching adult writing classes at a local arts center, and revising a second novel about a small town in 19th-century Iowa.

A Southern storyteller in the grand tradition, she is a passionate teacher of Southern American literature, British Romanticism, and - primarily - creative writing.

Her personal essay, "The Odd Girls: Flannery O'Connor and Me," was co-winner of Shenandoah's Bevel Summers Award and the Carter Prize for the Essay in 2010. An avid biker, seed-saver and urban gardener, she blogs about sustainability, finance and other nourishments of life and spirit.

Upcoming artists at Lanesboro Live! include bands Incognito and The May North, and authors Michael Fedo and Greg Brick.

The house band will be the talented CBB Jazz Combo - with Nathan Davidson on saxophone, Jerry Barrett on trumpet, Curt Peterson on piano, Roy Cerling on bass and David Brown on drums.

The show is presented in partnership with Lanesboro Arts Center. With a self-proclaimed PG-13 rating, "Lanesboro Live!" will run on Sunday nights throughout 2013 at the St. Mane Theatre in Lanesboro. Upcoming shows are scheduled for May 26, June 16, Aug. 4, Sept. 1 and Dec. 8, always at 7 p.m.

Show tickets are $15 or $12 for LAC members, available in advance at the Lanesboro Arts Center, 507-467-2446 and at the St. Mane Theatre beginning at 6 p.m. on show nights.
