Lanesboro scored on all eight first-half possessions while rolling to a 60-34 sub-section quarterfinal win over visiting Lyle/Pacelli on Oct. 22.
Senior Niko Anderson (28) causes this fumble on Grand Meadow's quarterback as Lanesboro teammate Jerael Eddy (85) closes in.
The seventh-seeded Athletics (1-8) had some offensive success including a pair of first-half touchdowns but could not defend against the second-seed Burros.
Penalties negated three LHS touchdown plays. But in two cases, Lanesboro would go on to score anyway. The Burro starters enjoyed good field position and never needed more than five plays to reach the end zone while rolling to a 54-14 halftime lead.
The lone TD by Burro reserves in the second half came on an 85-yard kickoff return by Zach Voeltz.
Tylar Miller rolled up 145 yards while averaging 24.2 yards on only 6 carries. He scored on runs of 50, 25 and 59 yards. Rushing record holder Niko Anderson went to the sideline early after only seven carries but still gained 92 yards including TD runs of 42 and 9 yards. Gabe Decker carried seven times for 81 yards including TD runs of 12 and 34 yards. Quarterback Garrett Boggs scored from 63 yards out on his only carry in addition to completing all four of his passing attempts for 81 yards. Kole Ruud caught two passes for 48 yards
Averaging 12.1 yards per play, the Burros scored so quickly (nine plays for 20-plus yards) that they ran only 40 plays to the Athletics' 69.
It started well for the Athletics. L/P took a quick 8-0 lead on the second play from scrimmage with a 70-yard run by Daniel Bollingberg, Later, his 55-yard scamper set up his nine-yard TD run to make it 27-14 in the second quarter.
Against LHS reserves, L/P added touchdowns on its first three possessions of the second half but still trailed 54-34. Bollingberg finished with 181 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns.
Quarterback Jordan Hart rushed for 155 yards including TD runs of 47 and 53 yards. But he completed only five of 20 passes for 38 yards and was sacked twice by Ruud and Matt Luck.
LHS rushed for 403 yards and out-gained L/P in total yardage 484 to 397.
Liam Dorn led LHS tackle stats with eight stops. Jeremy Hanson had five tackles.
The Burros had defeated L/P 83-16 back in week five. The win sent LHS (8-1) into the section semi-final versus No. 3 seed Grand Meadow (8-1).
