Getting lots of action, on offense and defense, was Fillmore Central junior Logan Masters. Masters, who plays wide receiver on offense and in the backfield on defense, had just about everything, except the kitchen sink thrown at him last Friday night against a potent Chatfield team (ranked No. 10 in Class AA).
Fillmore Central’s Brandon Breitsprecher throws a pass against Chatfield while getting protection from Dan Gatzke, Jacob Tammel, Nick Ebner and Dylan Birch. Gatzke completed 10 passes for 151 yards against the Gophers.
Masters caught three passes for 63 yards and was the leading tackler (seven solos, 4 assists) on the defensive side of the ball.
The Falcons scored their only touchdown of the game in the first quarter, on a 46 yard touchdown pass, from Brandon Breitsprecher to Dan Gatzke. The score cut the Chatfield lead to 7-6 at the time. Gatzke ended up catching four passes in the game, for a total of 73 yards.
Dan was also the leading rusher for the Falcons, carrying the ball 14 times for a total of 75 yards. Defensively, Gatzke also had two solo tackles and was in on two assists.
Defensively, Andy Love had a fumble recovery for the Falcons. Fillmore Central took full advantage of the turnover, turning into six points with the Breitsprecher to Gatzke TD pass. Devon Block had five solo tackles and Nick Ebner had four solos in the game. Mckinnen Stone contributed on five assist and one solo tackle. Senior Jake Ristau had two solo tackles and three assists. Also coming up with solo tackles were Chris Collett, Andy Coyle (2), Love, Mitch Ristau and Dylan Birch.
This week the Falcons (0-2, 1-4) travel to Spring Valley to take on the Kingsland Knights (0-2, 1-4). Both teams have identical records, overall, and in the Three Rivers Conference.
