The Fillmore Central boys golf team has had two meets/matches, and junior Jordan Miller has been the medalist in both of them.

In the first match of the season Thursday, Miller took medalist honors with a score of 79 on the Willow Creek course in the Stewartville Invitational. Miller tied with Byron's Hunter Fjerstad, but took first on tie-breaking criteria. As a team, Fillmore Central was eighth with a score of 367. Stewartville won the meet with a team score of 335. Other Falcon golfers, and their scores: Trevor Barnes (90), Alex Lange (93), Matson Kiehne (105), Garrett Barnes (108) and Connor Morem (110). The top four scores are totaled to get the team score. Par for Willow Creek is 70.

"The boys did a good job for the first meet of the year," said coach Bradley Holten. "It was a very cold day and many had several layers on (clothes). It was very close in the team score race."

Team scores: Stewartville (335), Byron (352), Zumbrota-Mazeppa (357), Lake City (362), Kasson-Mantorville (365), Hayfield (365), Blooming Prairie (366), FC (367), Rushford-Peterson (372), Pine Island (380), Caledonia (384), Lanesboro (387), LO/GM (394), Lyle/Pacelli (408), Houston (414) and Kingsland (473). The top five teams in the meet are Class AA while Blooming Prairie, Fillmore Central, Hayfield, Houston, Kingsland, Lanesboro, Rushford-Peterson, LeRoy-Ostrander/Grand Meadow and Lyle/Pacelli will be competing in Class A when the post-season gets underway.

In a conference dual meet with Caledonia/Spring Grove, the Falcons came out on top, 175-187 (low score wins in golf). Miller had the low score for Fillmore Central, shooting a 41 on the MA-CAL-Grove Club course. Also scoring for Fillmore Central were Trevor Barnes (43), Connor Morem (45) and Alex Lange (46). Delton Sauer, playing his first varsity match, had a 48 and Matson Kiehne carded a 50. Par score at MA-CAL-Grove is 36.

Playing on the Fillmore Central B squad were Devin Whitacre (48), Andrew Reicks (51), Vaughan Schmidt (52), Dacoda Johnson (53), Brennan Tienter (56) and Kurtis Hershberger (59). The bombers had a team score of 204. Caledonia only had two golfers, so they were incomplete.

Coming up the guys have matches with Caledonia/SG, Southland and Rushford-Peterson.


The Fillmore Central gals opened the 2014 season this past Monday with a dual meet at La Crescent, winning 197-227. Katie Tammel was co-medalist with a 42.

Scoring for the Lady Falcons were Tammel (42), Keeley Todd (48), Laura Dooney (50) and Grace Miller (52). Also playing on the varsity squad were Cailey Rindels (60) and Elayna Kiehne (61). Weather conditions for the first match were 68 degrees and winds around 12 to 14 mph.

Matches against Caledonia/Spring Grove, Southland and Houston are coming up.
