The Fillmore Central football team had eight possessions last Friday night in the game against Chatfield, but couldn't get into the end zone, losing to the Gophers, 31-0.
About the only positive offensive drive for FC came in the third quarter when the Falcons put together a 60+ yards drive on 18 plays. Unfortunately, this possession ended in a turnover when Chatfield came up with an interception to end the scoring threat.
Other possessions for the Falcons ended in punts (3), fumble (turnover, 2), interception (turnover), downs and end of the game.
"Chatfield has a very good team," said coach Chris Mensink. "We made some mistakes, but we can correct them and are looking forward to going into Caledonia next week with a positive attitude. We're playing a lot of AA schools and like our chances when we get to the playoffs and Class A schools. We've got a lot of fight, and that's what we're planning on doing the rest of the season."
Turnovers were very costly to the Falcons and something that Mensink is very aware of and something he is determined to correct.
Dylan Bathke carried the ball 10 times for the Falcons, picking up a net 36 yards. Bathke has been used more, each game, as the season progresses. McKinnen Stone had 34 yards in seven carries. Quarterback Bryce Whitehill carried five times for 21 yards. Sophomore Tyson Ristau picked up nine yards in three carries.
Whitehill had three completions, all to Logan Masters, for nine yards.
Defensively, the Falcons were led by Connor Hanson (seven solo tackles, six assists), Monty Holm (6s, 6a), Tyson Ristau (4s, 8a), McKinnen Stone (2s, 8a), Josh Jones (2s, 3a), Andy Love (3s, 2a), Nick Mensink (2s, 3a), Clay Fishbaugher (4a) and Jordan Miller (2s, 2a). Mensink and Holm were involved in an assisted tackle for a loss and Holm had a solo tackle for a loss.
Special team players were Logan Masters (kick return), Tyson Ristau (kick return), Jordan Miller (kick return), Monty Holm (punting) and Collin Bennett (kickoff).
Friday night the team will travel to #1 Caledonia for another Blue Division game.
