"We are really excited to play year this because we feel great about the opportunity to positively answer the questions about our lack of experience," said first year Fillmore Central boys basketball coach Aaron Janssen.
"This is the first year for me at head coach and I am enjoying working with these guys so far," he added. "They love to learn the game of basketball and they have been willing to work hard and put in the time to allow the transition to not be so overwhelming. The entire team participated in the summer program, which is a testament to their dedication to get better. We had excellent parental support this summer, making it a great experience.
"The players have set lofty individual and team goals for themselves and I relish the opportunity to facilitate them in reaching all of them. As the coach of this team, my number one goal for this team is that the players become better men through the life lessons that basketball can teach."
Returning letter winners, all seniors, are Dan Gatzke (capt.), Andy Coyle (capt.), Mike Walsh, Zach Case, Jake Tammel, Cal Larson, Brandon Breitsprecher and Cody Hendrickson.
Other members of the team are Logan Masters, Collin Bennett, Carter Rindels, Ole Dalsbo, Kirby O'Connor, Quentin Case, Nick Powell and Ascher Ostrom. Dalsbo is a senior foreign exchange student, while all the other players are juniors.
Janssen sees Plainview-Elgin-Millville to be a very solid team, and will be challenged in the conference race by Chatfield, Lewiston-Altura, Rushford-Peterson and Caledonia.
The Falcons opened their season at Kingsland this past Tuesday, and then travel to Chatfield on Thursday. The team has 20 conference games and non-conference match-ups with Grand Meadow, Houston, Lanesboro, Winona Cotter, Spring Grove and Mabel-Canton.
Aaron Mensink is assisting Janssen as the B team coach.
