L/FC/M-C thinclads compete at True Team

Eighteen track and field teams convened at Triton High in Dodge Center on May 6, the site of this year's Section 1A True Team track meet. For Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/Mabel-Canton, it was a chance to compete against a wide range of opponents in a meet that utilizes a different scoring system.

Points are awarded for not only the top few places, but on a descending scale from top to bottom. For example, 36 boys lined up for discus. First place earned 36 points, while last place earned one.
Olivia Haug of L/FC/M-C bested 36 opponents, winning the discus throw at 118-00 feet. She also took third in shot put.
Other high-scorers included Kenzie Broadwater, who earned true team points in several events. She took fourth in the 100-meter dash, eighth in the 200M dash, ran on the 4x400M team with Sara Vettleson-Trutza, Kendyl Bennett, and Paige Bennet (taking fifth), and got seventh in long jump.
Kiera Olson took fourth in the 1600M run. She also grabbed fifth in the 3200M.
The 4x200M relay of Maggie Decker, Rachel Kimball, and Leah Scheevel, and Paige Bennett took fourth. The 4x800 featuring Alyssa Gathje, Paige Bennett, Leah Ruen, and Kendyl Bennett also earned fourth-place points. The 4x100M relay took seventh. That squad featured Belle Sand, Cassidy Ruud, Scheevel, and Kimball.
Bailey Ruen got eighth in the 1600M run and 11th at 800M. Leah Ruen took 10th in the latter.
Emily Snyder took ninth in the 3200M. Paige Bennett took 12th in the 400M dash.
The girls from Lake City won the team competition, with 1,103.5 points and a chance to compete at the state true team meet. L/FC/M-C took fourth at 808.5.
The boys from L/FC/M-C finished even higher, nearly earning a trip to the state true team event as the top runner-up in the series. They defeated every team except one (Pine Island), totaling 887.5 points to the Panther's 937.5.
Gabe Decker won the pole vault at 11-06.00, and took fifth in the 100M dash. He also ran on the 4x200M relay with Niko Anderson, Damon Zutz, and Monty Holm, as that squad took second. Holm took fourth in the 400M dash, and ran on the 4x400M relay team with Case, Damon Zutz, and Zach Voeltz. That team took fifth.
Zutz, Anderson, Alex Reed, and Decker earned third place points in the 4x100M relay. Reed got third in pole vault while he wasn't racing. Anderson also took fifth in the 200M dash, and 10th in long jump.
Bram Van Lent took third in the 110M hurdles, while Quentin Case took fifth. The same pair scored points in the 300M hurdles, with Case in third and Van Lent in fourth. Van Lent also earned seventh place points in the 200M dash.
Eric Holst got fourth in discus and 10th in shot put. Mac Stone took sixth in discus.
Travis Troendle took seventh in the 1600M run, and eighth in the 3200M.
Voeltz also earned eighth place points in both the 800M and 1600M.
