"We just got outplayed. They hit, pitched and played better defense. We had some chances, but couldn't convert into runs. Didn't want it to end this way, but it did!" Those were the sentiments of Fillmore Central/Lanesboro head softball coach Tris Tollefson, following the upset loss to Lewiston-Altura in the first round of the sub-section tournament this past Monday.
Taylor Case of the Falcons puts the tag on a GMLOK runner.
FCL went into the tournament as the #2 seed, while the Cardinals were seeded #7. But as we all know, seeding means nothing...you've got to play the game. And play the game they (Lewiston-Altura) did, upsetting the Falcon gals 5-1, ending the season for Fillmore Central/Lanesboro.
The Lady Falcons could only muster two hits off the Lewiston-Altura pitching; a bunt single by Morgan Malley to lead off the game, and a two-out hit by Kaitlynn Aug in the fifth inning. Malley was stranded on second in that first inning. Aug eventually scored the only Falcon run when her hit was followed by three consecutive walks to Shelby Ebner, Malley and Jordan O'Connor. O'Connor was credited with the only rbi for FCL.
Morgan Malley was credited with the pitching loss. She allowed 10 hits, five runs, all earned, no walks and struck out 11.
That loss ends the season for FCL, finishing with a record of 13-4.
Last week the gals had games on Tuesday (W-K), Wednesday (RP, double-header), Thursday (GMLOK, double-header) and Saturday (SG/Cal, double-header), winning six of the seven. Here are some highlights from some of those games.
Wabasha-Kellogg, won, 3-1...getting base hits were Morgan Malley (run, rbi), Jordan O'Connor (2 rbi), Chelsea Rislove, Steph Erickson (run), Kaitlynn Aug (run). Winning pitcher: Malley (9 strikeouts, four walks, four hits). Scored all three runs in the fifth inning with five of the six team's hits.
Rushford-Peterson, game one, won, 10-5...two hits each for Rislove, Taylor Case, Taylor Sprenger and Erickson. Solo hits for O'Connor and Tori Peterson. Sprenger and Erickson each had three runs-batted-in and Case had two. Malley struck out 14 and walked two. Runs scored by Rislove (3), O'Connor (2), Case (2), Malley, Sprenger and Peterson.
R-P, game two, won, 5-3...Malley and Rislove led the hitting attack with three and two, respectively. Also getting hits were O'Connor, Peterson and Aug. Rislove led the team with two rbi. Steph Erickson pitched the first four innings and then was relieved by Morgan Malley (WP). Chelsea Rislove had the winning hit in the fifth inning with a double to left.
Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Kingsland, game one, won 8-1...Taylor Case had three hits and two rbi to lead the team on offense. Three other players, Morgan Malley, Jordan O'Connor and Taylor Sprenger, each had two hits. Freshman catcher Shelby Ebner had a hit, rbi and run scored. Case and Sprenger each had two runs-batted-in. Malley was the winning pitcher.
GMLOK, game two, won, 8-4. Rislove (3), O'Connor (2), Megan Hendrickson and Gabby Brazee had the hits in the second game of the double-header. Hendrickson's hit drove in two runs in the fifth inning. Also getting rbi's were O'Connor, Rislove, Erickson and Brazee.
