Volleyball team beats L-A, to face Spring Grove in subsection

The Fillmore Central volleyball team finished the 2012 regular season with a Three Rivers Conference win over Lewiston-Altura, 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-7), giving them an overall record of 25-5, 8-2 in the TRC. The 8-2 record in the conference is good for a third place finish.
Thursday night the gals will host Spring Grove (No. 6, 17-11) in the quarter-finals of the Subsection. Fillmore Central received the No. 3 seed in the East 1A Subsection Tournament. In other matches in the 1A East Subsection Tournament; Goodhue (No. 5) at Rushford-Peterson (No. 4), Lewiston-Altura (No. 7) travels to Mabel-Canton (No. 2) and Wabasha-Kellogg (No. 1) hosts Kingsland (No. 8).
In the win over the Cardinals in the regular season finale, Taylor Case had 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .533 (16 kills, 0 errors, 30 attacks). Sammi Bakke also had a great night at the net, getting 10 kills in 15 attacks and a hitting efficiency of .667. Tor Peterson had nine kills and 'hit' .375. Kaitlynn Aug led the team with three ace blocks.
In serving, Danielle Zinsmaster led the way with a 15/15 performance.
Defensively, Sara Schultz led the team with eight digs and 5/5 in serve receive. Chelsea Rislove had seven digs and was 11/11 in SR. Coming up with six digs each were Taylor Case and Morgan Malley. Morgan also led the team with 29 set assists.
If the gals get a win over Spring Grove Thursday night, they will play the Lewiston-Altura/Mabel-Canton winner at the Mayo Civic Arena on Saturday.
