Benefit set in Mabel to help local family with ailing infant

A benefit will be held at the Mabel American Legion on Saturday, June 29, to help with medical expenses for four-month-old Aaliya Neveah Brumm-Lopez, daughter of Beverly Brumm and Marvin Lopez.
Aaliya Brumm-Lopez, at 4 months of age, has undergone numerous surgeries to repair a hole in her heart and additional surgeries are still needed.
Aaliya was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot with absent pulmonary valve syndrome at five-months gestation. Tetralogy of Fallot is when there is a hole in the heart. Absent pulmonary valve syndrome is when the pulmonary valve is poorly formed, allowing blood to flow in and out. A properly formed pulmonary valve would allow blood to be pushed out and not back in. It can also affect the pulmonary artery, causing the artery to become enlarged.
In Aaliya's case, her artery was four times larger than it was supposed to be! Eventually, and very common with Tetralogy of Fallot with absent pulmonary valve syndrome, the right side of her heart also became very enlarged causing there to be a lot of compression in her chest, making it hard for her lungs to develop properly.
This also pressed her already enlarged artery against her trachea, making it hard or impossible for her to breath.
At four-months old, Aaliya has already had seven surgeries and will need another one. The doctors are calling her a "miracle baby."
The extended Brumm family is asking for prayers and support for the upcoming benefit to help with medical expenses.
The benefit will consist of a spaghetti supper, complete with garlic bread, beverages and bars. Beverly will attend the benefit with a display and more information about her daughter's condition.
If one cannot make the benefit and would like to donate, please send a check to Beverly Brumm, c/o Donald Brumm, Jr., at 106 N. Locust, PO Box 323, Mabel, MN 55954.
