Wednesday, October 02, 2013 3:01 AM
As the leaves begin to turn and temperatures cool, the small community of Harmony is once again planning a celebration of the season. Organized by the Harmony Chamber of Commerce, the celebration will include traditional favorites, such as city-wide garage sales and fall driving tours and pumpkin decorating. The weekend of Oct. 4 to 6 promises to hold fun for everyone.
A special fundraising event will be held throughout the weekend at the Harmony Greenhouse and will benefit the Noah's Bark animal shelter in Canton. The event will feature a bake sale, silent auction, face painting and a photo booth for pets and people. It is recommended that one call ahead for an appointment (507-886-4866) if pet is not friendly with other animals or other people.
Independent sales distributors will also have booths at the greenhouse, including Scentsy, Tupperware, Misty Blue Creations, Tastefully Simple, Thirty One, Pampered Chef and Vault Denim. Look to the list of events on page 12 of this issue for specific times the vendors will be on site.
Decorate pumpkins on Saturday with the Fillmore Central ECFE, from 10 a.m. to noon at Selvig Park. While there, also take a break and play on the new playground equipment installed this summer.
Other activities planned for the weekend include fall color driving tours, with maps available at the visitor's office; city wide garage sales, with maps at the visitor's center and Harmony IGA; Amish tours; mini golf and tours of Niagara Cave and tours at Slim's Woodshed.
Fall Foliage events continue on Saturday with an Amish farmer's market at the Country Lodge Inn and a flea market and farmer's market at Generations of Harmony.
The Harmony United Methodist Church will be holding its annual Applefest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church on Main Avenue South. Enjoy barbecues and turkey sandwiches, potato and pasta salads, apple pie and apple crisp and beverages. There will also be a craft booth open and will feature many gift items and cards and church cookbooks.
Celebrate fall by coming to Harmony during the first weekend in October and enjoy some family fun as well as "discover" what the community has to offer.
