Motorists using Highway 16 west of Lanesboro in Fillmore County will encounter a detour during construction to replace two bridges in a project that began earlier this week, on Tuesday, June 3, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The signed detour is the same that was used last year for another bridge replacement project on Highway 16. Motorists traveling to Lanesboro from the west should take Fillmore County Road 17 in Preston, north to Fillmore County Road 8, east to Highway 250, south to Highway 16 South in Lanesboro.
Highway 16 is closed to through traffic between Lanesboro and Highway 52.
Details of the project are available on the MnDOT project page at www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/hwy16-bridge-replacement/index.html. The detour is expected to last through Aug. 30.
The general contractor for this $945,660 construction project is Minnowa Construction of Harmony.
MnDOT urges motorists to stay alert in road construction work zones and to watch for signs equipment and workers. Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking. Avoid tailgating and follow posted speed limits and directional signs. Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone.
