Dennis M. Day, 64, of Rochester, died of a heart attack Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, while pheasant hunting in Faulkton, S.D.

He was born on May 8, 1948, to Melvin "Jack" and Crystal (Miller) Day in Rochester. He graduated from John Marshall High School in 1966.

On Feb. 25, 1977, he married Sandra Danielson at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro.

From 1966 to 1968, he worked for GMC Trucks. He then entered the U.S. Air Force and served his country from 1968 to 1972 overseas in Korea, Okinawa and Vietnam. After the service, he was employed by People's Natural Gas from 1972 to 1979.

On Aug. 1, 1979, he and his wife purchased the White Valley Motel in St. Charles, which they owned and operated until 1988. He recently had worked for Bowman Lock and Key, Bertschinger Masonry, Magnum Machining, Inc., Rochester Precision Machine, Inc., and drove shuttle bus for the Soldiers Field Hotel.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Pheasants Forever. He was an avid pheasant hunter, fisherman and walker, and he thoroughly enjoyed the great outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and was a mentor and role model to his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by wife, Sandra; his mother, Crystal of Rochester; one brother, Robert Day of Zumbrota; three sisters, Nancy (Jim) Vold of Rochester, Susan Day of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Teresa (Wally) Bertschinger of Rochester; brothers and sisters-in-law, Susie Day of Rochester, Barb (Rev. Bernie) Daiker of Altoona, Iowa, Larry (Betty) Danielson of Rochester, Marcia (Orrin) Olson of Lanesboro, Lyle (Chris) Danielson of Spring Valley and Rebecca Danielson of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack, and his mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Gladys Danielson; as well as two brothers, Tom and Jon.

The funeral service was held last Friday in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial was in the Lanesboro Cemetery.
