Gladys Claussen, mother of Lanesboro man

Gladys L. Claussen, 103, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha.
Gladys Lucille Herman was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Quincy Township, Dover, to Dan and Elsie (Johnson) Herman.
She attended Schad's Corner rural school and graduated from Plainview High School in 1927. She then attended Winona Normal College. She taught 28 years in rural schools of Wabasha, Winona and Olmsted counties. She then taught eight years at the Plainview Public School as a special education teacher, retiring in 1975.
She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview where she served on the ladies aid, Pricilla club and taught release time.
On Sept. 5, 1931, she married Ervin Claussen at Immanuel Lutheran. They lived their entire married life in Plainview. Mr. Claussen died March 12, 1988.
Survivors include one son, Gordon (Glee) Claussen of Lanesboro; one daughter, Marilyn Claussen of Red Wing and daughter-in-law, Bernice Claussen of Rosemount; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Schwantz of Plainview.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Wayne, and two sisters, Donna Zabel and Maxine Hall.
The funeral service was held last Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with the Rev. Scott Hirssig officiating. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview.
Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church or St Ann's Unit of St. Elizabeth Health Care Center.
Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview was in charge of the arrangements.
