Jerome F. Harty, 84, of Rochester, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at the Kenyon Sunset Home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1929, in Philip, S.D. He moved from Yankton, S.D, to Rochester after graduation. He worked for People's Co-Op Power, where he developed lasting friendships with many of his coworkers. He retired after 41 years of dedicated service.

In 1950, he married Allene Lamey and they raised nine children.

They were members of St. Francis Church and later, Resurrection Parish. They resided in Rochester until January 2011, when they moved to Kenyon.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, lapidary and the outdoors. He and his wife traveled to Arizona, Hawaii and Mexico and enjoyed drives on country back roads. They spent many summers by the Mississippi at Read's Landing.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Allene; his children, Michael of Florida, Beth of Texas, David of Farmington, Roger (Renee) of Rochester, Gail (Mike Derouin) of Lanesboro, Donna (Robert) Lahtinen of Arizona, Dan (Lynn) of Rochester and Diane (Mark) Schlaefer of Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Rita, of Kenyon; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his oldest daughter, Charlotte Bartel, his brother, Rex, and sister, JoAnne.

A memorial service was held last Friday at River Park Chapel in Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. The Rev. James Russell officiated the memorial service.

Memorials are preferred to Faribault Hospice.
