Winneshiek Medical Center and the Winneshiek Medical Center Foundation invite the community to welcome the sights and sounds of spring at the fourth annual Embrace the Journey 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 31. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. for same-day registrations and the race will kick off at 8 a.m. with sounds of the ambulance siren. Young and old alike can walk, jog or run down the Upper Iowa riverside trail and enjoy the budding spring setting.

The race route follows the Trout Run Trail from the Winneshiek Medical Center campus east around the bend where Siewer Springs (Iowa's second largest spring) links from the Fish Hatchery to the Upper Iowa River. There will be a turn-about on the trail and participants will return to the Winneshiek Medical Center campus where the leading male and female runners will be awarded prizes and everyone can enjoy refreshments.

"This is perfect complement to the Spring Getaway event planned by the Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau," said Kelly Bouska, 5K coordinator. "Women can start their day with a walk or run and then participate in the shopping, arts and theater venues available in the area."

Entry fee for the Embrace the Journey 5K is just $20, which includes an embroidered knit cap. The proceeds from the event are dedicated to women's health initiatives at Winneshiek Medical Center, which are supported by the Winneshiek Medical Center Foundation.

Registration and parking will be marked in parking lot E just off the entrance from Montgomery Street. Volunteers from WMC will be on hand to help with registration and to monitor the route. Registration forms are available at, at the medical center or the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce. For more information, contact Winneshiek Medical Center at (563) 382-2911.
