Having to play three games in one week is tough, and winning two of the three would be considered a pretty good week. Well, the Lady Falcons did just that, picking up book end wins over Three Rivers Conference opponents Wabasha-Kellogg (58-43) and Lewiston-Altura (45-42). Sandwiched between those two wins was a non-conference loss to Lyle/Pacelli, 71-38. With the 2-1 week, Fillmore Central is now 2-5 on the season.
Fillmore Central had three players in double-figures against W-K: Morgan Malley (23), Leah Scheevel (13) and Kaitlynn Aug (10). In addition to her game high 23 points, Malley also had two rebounds, four steals and four assists. Leah Scheevel hit five of her seven shots from the field, and added five rebounds, six steals and two assists. Aug was four for six from the field and two for two at the charity line.
Jordan O'Connor added nine points on four of 10 shooting from the field and one of two at the line. Freshman Larissa Armstrong came off the bench and picked up five steals.
"We really got down to business in the second half," said coach Sarah Tollefsrud. "It's been two years since we got a conference win and I am so happy for our girls. It's a big confidence booster that was much needed."
Morgan Malley was the scoring leader, again, in the loss to Lyle/Pacelli. Malley had four field goals, two three's, and was three for three at the line for 13 points. Jordan O'Connor had eight points, Sammi Bakke contributed six, while Larissa Armstrong and Kaitlynn Aug each added four. Armstrong also had a team high four steals.
"Lyle/Pacelli is a real aggressive team, and we turned the ball over way too many times," said Tollefsrud. "It was a tough game. We're definitely a better team than what we showed tonight, but L/P has some nice athletes and they were the better team on the court."
In the win over Lewiston-Altura, Jordan O'Connor had a break-out game, nailing eight of 13 shots for a season high 18 points. She also contributed three rebounds and three steals. Morgan Malley had a pair of three-pointers and finished the night with a dozen. Sammi Bakke had a team high 11 rebounds, along with five points and three steals.
Tuesday night the gals were scheduled to travel to state ranked Dover-Eyota and Thursday they host Houston.
