Falcon gals lose to Mabel-Canton; minus two key players

Fillmore Central girls basketball coach, Sarah Tollefsrud, is not making any excuses, but playing without two "key players," Sammi Bakke and Larissa Armstrong, was really an important factor in the loss to the Mabel-Canton Cougars, 50-38. This is a very inexperienced team to begin with, and then to take two players who have had some varsity experience, makes the task of winning even harder.
"I want to give credit to Kenzie Broadwater," said Tollefsrud. "She started for us and did not come out of the game once. She worked hard from start to finish and just gave everything she had. Jordan O'Connor also worked very hard and was our leader the entire game."
Broadwater gave the team a certain spark that will have major implications as the season progresses.
Senior Jordan O'Connor led the team with 14 points. Morgan Malley also hit double-figures with 10. Kaitlynn Aug had a fine second half, with great basket penetration and finished with eight points. Kenzie Broadwater had one bucket and finished the game with two points. Leah Scheevel was two for two at the line, but saw limited playing time because of foul trouble. Bennett came off the bench in the second half and scored two points.
"It was a tough night, very frustrating," added Tollefsrud.
The Lady Falcons traveled to Rushford-Peterson Tuesday night and will host Caledonia on Thursday. Monday, Jan. 14, the gals will host Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
