Following a season opening win against Lanesboro, the Fillmore Central volleyball team had its record evened at 1-1 after a Three Rivers Conference loss to a powerful Caledonia team, 0-3 (22-25, 16-25, 23-25).
Only in game two were the Falcons "out-of-it" as far as a score was concerned. In the first game, the two teams were tied at 19-19, and in game three the score was deadlocked at 20-20. In game two, the Warriors took an early lead and maintained that lead the entire set, winning by nine at the end of the game.
Caledonia is considered by many as the top team in the East-subsection of Class AA and one of the favorites in the Three Rivers Conference, and currently ranked 11th in the state. The Falcons are listed as honorable mention team in the state Class A rankings.
Leading the way in the kills department were Taylor Case (13), Tor Peterson (7) and Leah Scheevel (4). Scheevel was tops in hitting efficiency, .400 (4 kills, 0 errors, 10 attacks), with Case right behind at .294 (13K, 3E, 34A). In addition to the kills, Fillmore Central also had many ace blocks, led by setter/hitter Morgan Malley with 4.5. Scheevel was also "all over the net" with four ace blocks.
Defensively, Taylor Case led the team with 19 digs and was 15/15 in serve receiving (SR). Chelsea Rislove, who plays the libero, had nine digs and was 19/21 in serve receiving. Tor Peterson was 4/4 in SR and added six digs. Others with fine serve receiving numbers were Sammi Bakki (5/5), Sara Schultz (10/11), Danielle Zinsmaster (5/6) and Kaitlyn Aug (2/4).
Morgan Malley had 23 of the team's 24 set assists.
The Falcons also did a nice job in their serving. Three of the gals were perfect: Case (9/9), Malley (8/8) and Zinsmaster (4/4). Missing just one serve were Peterson (12/13), Aug (4/5) and Bakki (8/9). Rislove hit on 10 of 12 serves, with one ace. Ace serves were also delivered by Malley and Aug.
