Last week the Fillmore Central/Lanesboro softball team beat Wabasha-Kellogg, 4-1, but lost a pair of TRC-South games to Spring Grove/Caledonia, 1-0 and 12-0.

In the win over W-K, the gals came up with eight hits, two each for Steph Erickson and Shelby Ebner and solo shots for Morgan Malley, Taylor Sprenger, Megan Hendrickson and Haley Polin.
FC/L got one run in the first, two in the second and their last tally in the fifth. Sprenger scored the first run on a one-out single, advance to second on an error and then came across on Erickson's single. Hendrickson and Shelby Ebner led off the second with base hits and then both scored on Haley Polin's single to left. Morgan Malley scored the fourth FC/L run on Sprenger's sacrifice fly to center field in the fifth inning. Malley led off the inning with a single and advanced to third base with a pair of stolen bases.
Malley got the win, going the full seven innings, allowing just two hits, one run (earned) and three walks. She struck out 14 W-K batters.
"We played a very solid game," said coach Tris Tollefson. "We played good defense and got excellent pitching from Morgan Malley."

The first game of the SG/Cal double-header was a 1-0 14-inning thriller. Unfortunately, the locals were on the short end of the 1-0 score.
"I have never been involved with a game like this," said Tollefson. "Morgan Malley and Samantha Bratland hooked up in one great pitching duel. Bratland was very tough on us. We only mustered four hits and struck out 29 times. I was proud of the defense we played behind Morgan, as well. We made only two errors in a pressure packed game. The game lasted about three hours and it was quite a draining experience."
Malley pitched the entire game, scattering 14 hits, walking two and giving up just one run. She struck out 16 in the loss.
The Falcons got just four hits, two by Sprenger and one each by Erickson and Kaitlynn Aug.

The second game turned into a 10-runner and didn't even come close to the same drama as game one.
"We moved to a field with lights and no fence," said Tollefson. "The 'no-fence' really hurt us, with many of the hits landing in the gaps and rolling forever."
Erickson pitched the entire game, allowing 10 hits and 12 runs (five earned), but didn't allow any walks. She struck out two.
"We didn't give Steph very good support," said Tollefson, "committing eight errors in the game."
The game ended after the sixth inning when the Lady Falcons couldn't come up with any runs to extend play into the seventh inning.
FC/L had six hits, two for Erickson and one each for Malley, Sprenger, Hendrickson and Ebner.
