Girls streak at three; Malley hits 30 against SG

The Fillmore Central girls basketball team is on a three game winning streak, beating Wabasha-Kellogg (68-53), Spring Grove (65-54) and Kingsland (57-51) last week. With the three wins the Lady Falcons improved to 7-8 overall and 5-8 in Three Rivers Conference play.

The gals had three players in double-figures against W-K: Morgan Malley (22), Kendyl Bennett (16) and Sammi Bakke (14). Leah Scheevel led the team in rebounds (nine) and steals (four). Kenzie Broadwater dished out a team high eight assists. Malley was four for eight from three-point range.
"We started off looking a little ragged," said coach Sarah Tollefsrud about the W-K game, but the Falcons "picked up our intensity" and cruised to the 15-point win. FC led by 10, 36-26, at halftime.

Malley had 30 points against Spring Grove, hitting nine field goals, five from beyond the arc, as the gals got their first win in seven years against the Lions.
"This win felt pretty good," said a pumped-up Tollefsrud. "You have to play with heart," added the coach, "and we did tonight."
Kendyl Bennett and Scheevel were also in double figures, with 12 and 11, respectively. Scheevel added a dozen rebounds to record a double-double. Bakke led the team with four steals and Broadwater had a team high five assists.

Broadwater had a super floor game against Kingsland, dishing out 10 assists and recording four steals. She also had 12 points to record her first double-double of the season. Four-for-four from the free throw line added to the sweetness of her game against the Knights.
Malley had a game high 25 points in the win, which included four for 10 from long-range and five for eight at the charity stripe. Kendyl Bennett and Bakke led the team in rebounding, each pulling down eight.

This week the gals have three games, Tuesday at Chatfield, Thursday at home against Rushford-Peterson and Friday on the road at Grand Meadow. Monday, Feb. 3, they travel to Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
