Legion baseball returns

For the first time in over 30 years, athletes from Preston, Fountain, Lanesboro and Harmony will have an opportunity to play American Legion baseball. Thanks to the combined efforts of several individuals, mainly Keith Larson, Jim Peters and Scott Rustad, a Legion baseball team has been organized, with play beginning this summer.
Official sponsors of the Legion team will be the American Legion posts from Harmony, Lanesboro, and Preston. Also sponsoring the team, financially, is Preston Sons of Legion and other individuals from the communities.
The Legion team is planning on playing in a couple tournaments this summer, one of which will be a Division II tournament out in Montevideo, Minn. Also, the team is planning on hosting Caledonia, and another team to be named soon, for a couple games on Saturday, June 14. The June 14 event will be held at the high school diamond in Preston. Organizers are hoping the "Visit to the Valley" will become an annual event, and are planning to add more teams in the future.
In addition to the American Legion baseball program, a Central Baseball Club has been organized. This club will be involved in sponsoring additional teams in the Austin League (ages 13 to 15) and the Three Rivers League (ages 15 and 16). Coaches for the various teams will be Rustad, Peters, Keith Larson and Cal Larson. This will be the third year in the Austin League where success has followed the team; second place the first year and a championship last year.
If you would like to get involved, and/or, contribute financially, contact Scott Rustad, PO Box 64, Fountain, Minn., 55935.
