The best pitcher on a state-ranked team was too much for the Cougars to overcome on Monday, May 19. That's when M-C bowed out, 8-0, in the opening round of post-season play.

The Falcons put ace hurler Morgan Malley in for the start of their conference run. She tossed a no-hitter for FC/L, retiring 14 of the 21 batters with strikeouts.

Number-eight seed M-C had only two batters reach base - with a Falcon error in their fourth inning and after Chelcie Busch had drawn a walk in the first inning.

The Cougar highlight came on defense with a double play in the third frame.

M-C pitcher Sara Lind struck out two batters, issued no walks and allowed only two earned runs.

FC/L scored eight runs with 10 hits aided by six Cougar errors. Seven Falcons hit safely with Shelby Ebner and Megan Hendrickson each batting two-for-three. Malley hit two-for-four, including a two-RBI double, the only extra-base hit of the game.

The Cougars closed the season with a 5-10 record including a 4-2 second-place mark in the Southeast Conference.

The Falcons, who had defeated M-C 4-0 during the regular season, improved to 13-3. State-ranked number-nine FC/L gave up only one run in three sub-section games - blanking Lewiston-Altura, 2-0, in the semi-finals and defeating Wabasha-Kellogg, 2-1, in the 1A East championship game.
