Mabel-Canton winter athletes earn honors

The votes are in and both Cougar basketball teams have honored some outstanding players for their winter performances.

For the ladies, senior guard Lydia Geving was named Most Valuable Player. The Most Improved Player Award was shared by senior guard Abby Hanson and sophomore guard Connor Benson. Hanson and freshman guard Coranda Vickerman shared the Hardest Worker Award.
Geving totaled a team-high 372 points, 148 rebounds, 65 assists, 77 steals and six blocked shots for the season. Hanson had 80 boards, 61 points, 20 assists, 17 steals and two blocks. Benson had 10 rebounds, 9 steals, 6 assists and 7 points. Vickerman scored 158 points, grabbed 79 rebounds, dished out a team-high 69 assists and lifted 57 steals.
The Cougar gals finished with a record of 15-10 overall, 13-4 in conference play.
For the gents, senior guard Noah Manning was named Most Valuable Player. He scored 255 points, grabbed 157 rebounds, passed for 89 assists and lifted 56 steals this season.
Senior forward Justin Ward earned the Hardest Worker Award. His numbers included 263 points, 100 rebounds, 75 assists and 62 steals.
Senior center Collin O'Bieglo won the Most Improved Player Award. He totaled 52 boards, 12 steals, five assists and 79 points, including a 68.4 percent success rate from the foul line.
The boys also enjoyed a winning season, finishing at 15-12 overall, 12-6 in conference action.
