Volunteers, donors, homeowner families and community partners are invited to join Habitat for Humanity Winona- Fillmore Counties on Sunday, Oct. 6, to celebrate World Habitat Day 2013. A community-wide potluck picnic is planned for all those who have had a hand in Habitat's work or would like to. The event will be held at the Jaycees Pavilion at Lake Park in Winona from 4 to 6 p.m.

Habitat for Humanity Winona-Fillmore Counties is planning a picnic on Oct. 6 to celebrate Habitat's work and to place in the hearts, minds and souls of people everywhere the idea that poverty housing is unacceptable. In addition to the potluck picnic, there will be music, yard games and lots of time to visit and share stories with others in the community who believe in Habitat.

Megan Grebe, Habitat's community outreach coordinator, said, "At Habitat we talk a lot about building community, the process of bringing people together to work on a home for a family in need is so very important. We just want people to come out and celebrate the many ways our communities have come together to support affordable housing."

The celebration is a potluck, so attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and stories about their experiences with affordable housing. Habitat will provide water, lemonade, plates, napkins and plastic ware. There will be lawn games and music-come prepared for a good old-fashioned picnic!

This is a great way to support Habitat for Humanity as they seek to raise global awareness of the importance of a world where everyone has a decent place to live!
