The Harmony city-wide flag display program is back for a third year. The Harmony American Legion Post would like to thank everyone who has helped make this a huge success! The Legion reached its goal last year of over 100 flags and hope to do the same or even more this year. The first year there were over 60 flags displayed and last year it topped out at 112!

The Legion has received many great comments from everyone, including non-residents. The Legion has added a fifth holiday this year, Flag Day on June 14.

For a small donation of $25, the Harmony American Legion Post 81 will place a two-foot by three-foot flag on a six-foot tall flagpole in one's front yard for a few designated holidays throughout the summer. The flagpoles are placed by driving a small stake into the yard that will leave little or no mark once it is removed. The flags are typically placed out in the morning of the given holiday or in some cases the night before, and are picked up that evening before sunset.

The flags help decorate the community, show the pride residents have in our country, and an unwavering support for our troops.

The money raised helps the Legion Post maintain its own parade rifles and flags. It helps the Legion members provide military rites at many funerals for their fallen comrades. It helps pay for flags and grave markers that are so beautifully displayed on Memorial Day along with putting on Memorial and Veterans Day programs for the community. The Legion also tries to donate money back to the community whenever possible. Some of the things it has contributed to so far are Empty Bowls, The JEM Theater, Selvig Park playground equipment and many more.

The five holidays included in this program are Memorial Day on May 27; Flag Day on June 14; the Fourth of July; Labor Day on Sept. 2 and Patriot Day on Sept. 11.

To participate, please send one's name, phone number and address along with a check payable to Harmony American Legion Post 81 to Harmony American Legion Post 81, c/o Jim Bakken, 215 5th St. SW, Harmony, MN 55939.

The committee also has 3x5 American flags for sale for $20. Just contact a member of the Legion Post.
