As Steam Engine Days quickly approaches, nine young women from the Mabel and Hesper area have chosen to be candidates for the 2013-2014 Steam Engine Days Queen.

These young ladies will be participating in their judging and banquet events on Wednesday evening, Sept. 4, at the St. Olaf Church in Mabel. The girls will be in the Steam Engine Days parade on Saturday, Sept. 7, and coronation will be held immediately following the parade on the stage in the Steam Engine Grounds.

The banquet will feature master of ceremonies Gret Wennes with special guests Dee Ann Erickson, president of the Mabel Business Association, and Mayor Brian Street. Dinner will be served by the St. Olaf Altar Society and the Rev. Mary Waudby will lead the invocation.

Judges for this year's queen contest are Sarah Wanless and Nicki Johnson. Judges for the Little Miss Mabel contest are SueAnn Kinneberg and Brenda Dietiker.

The outgoing court includes Queen Lydia Geving, daughter of Steve Geving and Pam Larson; First Attendant Christine Lee, daughter of Lyndon and Cam Lee; Second Attendant Payton Bergey, daughter of Dean Bergey and Amy Bergey; and Little Miss Mabel Jenessa Hershberger, daughter of Henry and Katie Hershberger.

The candidates for the 2013-2014 court, their parents and their sponsors are listed below.
