The Mabel Public Library’s summer reading program ended last Thursday with an actor from the Minnesota Historical Society presenting a special event as Maude Hart Lovelace, a well-known Minnesota author from Mankato.

The actor, who remained anonymous, told stories from Lovelace’s childhood, shared artifacts from her upbringing in the late 19th and early 20th century and shared her inspiration for her well-known Betsy-Tracy book series.

“I knew from the time I can remember that I was going to be a writer…” Lovelace said.

She told the students about the inspiration for her books along with the struggle to get her books published.

The presentation was funded through SELCO (Southeastern Libraries Cooperating).
