Delvin George Nelson, 75, of Preston died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, his 51st wedding anniversary, of respiratory failure at Saint Marys Hospital.

As per his wishes, his body was donated to the Mayo Clinic for educational purposes.

He was born Aug. 6, 1938, in Cresco, Iowa, to George and Joye Nelson. He was raised on the family farm.

After graduating from Preston High School, he became a talented mason.

In 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Pat Strahl. They resided in Preston and had two sons.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He taught firearms training and was on the kid's fishing derby committee since it originated 51 years ago.

His sense of humor will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Nick and Dave (Brooke Knies and children); and grandchildren, Luke, Kayla and Winona Nelson; other relatives, Marian Nelson, his aunt Myrtle Bellingham and many special cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Preston Servicemen's Club.

Memorials are preferred to the family.
