Dorothy Zweibahmer, 87 of Cresco, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco.
Dorothy Rothmeyer was born on Jan. 29, 1926, in Festina, Iowa, to Florian and Kathryn (Backes) Rothmeyer. She attended schools at Festina, Fort Atkinson and graduated from Calmar High School in 1944. Following graduation from high school, she worked at Holtz Drug in Austin, the Midland plant and also at Darlings Drug Store in Decorah. She also worked at HECO in Harmony, sewing canvas for campers from 1966 to 1991.
On Nov. 6, 1946, she married Elias Zweibahmer at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. To this union, two daughters were born, Cynthia and Susan. Together she and her husband made their home in Fort Atkinson, Ossian, Cresco and farmed most of their life near Kendallville.
She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, going to casinos, dancing, working crossword puzzles and old time music.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Elias; two daughters, Cynthia (fiancé Ed Voves) Ptacek of Cresco and Susan (Jerry) Patterson of St. Ansgar, Iowa; six grandchildren, Robert Ptacek of Elma, Iowa, Daniel (Renee) Ptacek of Elma, Vicky (Todd) Ulve of Manly, Iowa, Debra (Monty) Meyer of Mantorville, Minn., Jamie (Jill) Patterson of St. Ansgar, Iowa, and Scott (special friend Taji North) Patterson of St. Ansgar; 10 great-grandchildren, Jessica and Alicia Ulve, Rebecca and Zachary Meyer, Addison Ptacek, Dargan, Dakotah and Dylan Patterson, Xavier Patterson and Jadyn North; three sisters, Alice Elfner of Tallassee, Ala., Norma Holshbach of Belgium, Wis., and Mary Hosek of Elma; and one brother, Richard of Bellingham, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jerome, Kenneth and Dale; a brother-in-law, James Hosek, and one son-in-law, James Ptacek.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday at the Notre Dame Parish in Cresco. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Cresco.
Lindstorm Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
