Elaine Michel, 80, of Harmony, died Feb. 22, 2013, at the Harmony Nursing Home.

She was born to James and Elsie (Bigalk) Johnson on May 19, 1932, in Harmony and lived in the Harmony area throughout her life.

She attended Harmony High School and married Gordon Michel Nov. 11, 1948.

In her young adulthood, she was a farm wife and mother. Later in life she enjoyed collecting dolls and reading, particularly history and biography books. She researched her family genealogy and organized boxes of family historical documents and photographs. Family was very meaningful to her, and she will be remembered for all her handwritten letters, cards and thank you notes. She was enthusiastic about her grandchildren's school activities, and eagerly followed her grandson's and great-grandson's wrestling events.

She is survived by her four children, Susan (Paul) Dye of La Mesa, Calif., Michael (Janna) Michel of Rochester, Patricia Berg of Cresco and James (Deb) Michel of Rochester; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Petri of Owatonna; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, on May 17, 1972; her significant partner James Johnson and her sister Evelyn Eddy.

A memorial service was held last Sunday at the Harmony Manor where she had resided for the past 10 years.
