George W. Judy, 94, formerly of Whalan, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
He was born March 17, 1919, in Springfield, S.D.
In October 1941, he served in the U.S. Army until December 1945. During World War II, he was stationed on the Aleutian Island and the Philippine Islands.
After returning to the United States, he was united in marriage to Etta Mae Good. Together they farmed in rural Whalan and raised one daughter, Karla.
As a World War II veteran, he was very proud to serve as a commander of the American Legion for many years. He always felt honored to perform military honors for countless veterans.
One of his favorite pastimes was watching the Minnesota Twins. During the baseball seasons in his later years, he would watch them almost everyday. He also enjoyed going to watch the Whalan fast-pitch softball team.
He is survived by his daughter, Karla (Ellsworth) Holland of Rushford; grandchildren, Terry (Mona) Holland of League City, Texas, and Lisa (Bobby) Mort of Chambersburg, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, Emily and Aaron, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Etta Mae; infant son, Galen Francis, and all of his brothers and sisters.
Services were held last Friday at Rushford Lutheran Church.
Burial will be held at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
