Hazel Halverson, 88, once of Lanesboro

Hazel Tenora Halvorson, 88, once of Lanesboro, died on Friday, March 16, 2012, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, where she had been a resident for almost two years.
She was born June 4, 1923, to Helleck and Tonna (Olson) Odland. She grew up in the Whalan area and graduated from Lanesboro High School.
On Dec. 4, 1948, she married Carl Halvorson. They lived in Lanesboro, where she worked at the Federal Land Bank for many years until her retirement.
She was a lifelong member of Whalan Lutheran Church. She delivered Meals on Wheels for several years, and loved doing crafts and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Ruble of Mason City, Iowa; two grandsons, Tim Ruble of Carrollton, Texas, and Nathan Ruble of Bismarck, N.D.; her brother, Ores Odland of Good Shepherd Care Center in Rushford; a sister-in-law, Ora Halvorson of Franklin Grove, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1978.
Funeral services were held at Whalan Lutheran Church last Wednesday with the Rev. Patricia Hinkie presiding. Interment was in the Whalan Lutheran Cemetery.
Johnson-Riley Funeral Home, Lanesboro, was in charge of arrangements.
