Isaac Zafft, 27, of Winona, died Monday, July 7, 2014, in Penn Valley, Calif. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
He was born Jan. 28, 1987, in La Crosse, Wis. A graduate of Winona Senior High in 2005, he was a member of Troop 1 of the Boy Scouts of America. His Eagle Scout project was building the cement pads for the Frisbee golf course at Lake Winona. He loved camping and taught wilderness survival classes at Camp Decorah for several years.
He loved to travel, art, music of all kinds and trains. He made many beloved friends across North America while traveling and working. Friends and family always awaited his next visit and the stories and laughter he would provide.
He is survived by his parents, Riley and Janet Zafft of Winona; a sister, Nichole (Scott) Zafft-Longaker; nieces, Sonia and Lucie of Duluth; his grandfather, Merton Fairchild, and grandmother, Ruth Zafft, of Canton; many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service was held on Friday, July 18, at LaCanne Park in Goodview. The family suggests memorials to the local food shelf as he cared immensely for the homeless and the food shelf.
