John Lyle Street, 90, of York, Pa., formerly of Merrillville, Ind., died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the residence of his son in York.

He was born Sept. 9, 1922, at home on the family farm near Hesper, Iowa, to Granville and Avis Street. He graduated from Mabel High School in 1939, from William Penn College in 1943, and received a master's degree in chemistry from Haverford College in 1944. He worked as a metallurgist in the Chicago area from 1944 until his retirement in 2012.

He married Beatrice E. Olson on Oct 3, 1959. He and his wife loved the island of Kauai, Hawaii, and spent many happy vacations there until his wife's death in 2005.

He was a member of Hesper Friends Meeting in Hesper.

He is survived by his son, Richard D. (Peggy) Street of York, Pa.; two grandchildren, Eric (Kristen) Street and Andrew (Amy) Street; one great-granddaughter, Susan Street; three sisters, Neva (Robert) Hain of Rochester, Ruth Street Weinmann of Hesper and Karen (Robert) Tracy of Rochester; one sister-in-law, Bertha Lou Street (Curt) Tvedt of Byron; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; a sister, Arlene Street Boyum; a brother, Paul Street; and his parents.

There will be a memorial service for John and Bea at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Hesper Friends Meeting in Hesper.
