Lawrence L. Hudson, 80, of rural Harmony, died at his home Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 28, 1933, in Canton to Lawrence M. and Orabell (Pierce) Hudson. He graduated from the Canton High School in 1951. On Sept. 18, 1951, he entered the United States Air Force and served as a photographer and security guard in the Korean War. After his discharge Dec. 19, 1953, he returned home and started farming with his family near Canton.

On Oct. 16, 1954, he married Ramona Thompson in Harmony. They farmed in the Canton and Harmony areas and had continued to help his son, Gary, with fieldwork until this fall.

He was a member of the Henrytown Lutheran Church and a life member of the Canton American Legion. He was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed working on the farm, going for rides and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ramona; three children, Gary of Canton, Lori (George Braunreiter) Hudson of Canton and Tammy Serres of West Salem, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Travis (Katie) Grooters, Heather (Seth) Tribon, Lindsey Larson, Ryan (Mollie) Grooters, Scott Serres, Rachele Serres, Dylan Mann, Scott (Marilyn) Braunreiter and Keith (Kristy) Braunreiter; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ella, Addy, Aiden, Reese, Hudson, Marcus, Lars and Abby.

He was preceded in death by a son, Scott, and a brother, Ardie.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Henrytown Lutheran Church in rural Harmony with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Military honors were provided by the Canton American Legion.
