Maynard Duane Gilbertson, 84, of Lanesboro, died Monday morning, Nov. 25, 2013, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

He was born July 12, 1929, to Alvin and Golda (Guttormson) near Henrytown in Fillmore County. He went to work on the family farm at an early age. He had the privilege of living on the family farm for 80 years.

From 1954 to 1956, he served in the Korean War.

On April 29, 1967, he married Lois L. Hart at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville.

He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and as an usher. He enjoyed puzzles, reading, yard work and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Carmen (John) Omacht of Stewartville, Duane (Melissa) Gilbertson of Fountain and Brian (Carrie) Gilbertson of Edgerton; six grandchildren, Gabriel, Alexis, Reece, Mason, Kaylee and Chase; sister, Mary Ann (Herbert) Wurst of Plainview; a brother, Orrin (Marlene) Gilbertson of Plainview; a brother-in-law, Dale Hart of Waukon, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Sharon Hart of Stewartville and eight nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Duane Hart.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, Nov. 30, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro, with the Rev. Kerry Eversole officiating. Burial followed at the Lanesboro Cemetery with military funeral honors accorded by Lanesboro American Legion Post #40.

Johnson-Riley Funeral Home in Lanesboro assisted the family with arrangements.
