Milford "Mel" Johnson, 62, of Lime Springs, Iowa, died early Sunday morning, April 27, 2014, at his home with his family present.

He was born Oct. 22, 1951, in Rapid City, S.D., to Oral and Phyllis (Fishbaugher) Johnson.

He grew up in Harmony, and graduated from Harmony High School in 1969.

Through the years, he worked at Rochester Silo, drove semi, worked at Johnson Comfort Systems, owned Rendezvous Lounge in Lime Springs and currently owned and operated Johnson Lawn Care.

He was married to Peggy Remick and they were later divorced. In 1978, he married Cindy Unverzagt.

He was an avid fan of the Twins and Vikings.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Johnson of Lime Springs; three sons, Michael (Heather Godwin) Johnson of Taopi, Daniel (Tracy) Johnson of Stewartville and Matt (Megan) Johnson of Coggon, Iowa; five grandchildren, Skylar, Everett, Journey, Jaelyn and Easton; his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Gene Hageman of Harmony; a sister, Peggy Schneider of Lime Springs, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Beverly Unverzagt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry (Kathy Lentz) Unverzagt and Rich (Lisa) Unverzagt; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Mel was preceded in death by his father and father-in-law.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa. Burial will be at a later date.
