"Sally" Shirley Jane (Sandvik) Bestor, 77, of Harmony, died Nov. 12, 2013 (11/12/13) from long-term heart disease.
She was born to Engvald A. (Eng) and Dorothy J. (Meier) Sandvik of Harmony Feb. 19, 1936.
She married Lowell H. Engle (deceased) of Harmony in 1953. They later divorced. Their union bore three children, Terry R. Engle of Harmony, DebRae Sandvik (Engle) of LeRoy and Douglas T. Engle, (Mary Jo Kroeger) of rural Cresco.
She married Garth M. Bestor from Granger in 1961. They had three children, Ty (Dacia) Bestor of Harmony, Tonya Bestor of McHenry, Ill., and Chad (Jill) Bestor of Kenai, Alaska.
She loved her country home six miles west of Harmony where she enjoyed spending time gardening. There she started her home business of personalizing china. Her business blossomed into a gift shop in her basement for more than 40 years. Buying and collecting for herself and her shop was her passion. She enjoyed traveling and meeting people along the way and kept in touch with many of her friends and family through massive letter writing, mail and playing cards.
She is survived by her husband, Garth; her six children; a brother, Keith (Betty Amdahl) of Rochester; grandchildren, David, Jared (Lindsi Every) and Travis (TJ) Engle, Taylor (Kathryn France), Whitney and Blair Bestor and, most recently, her great-granddaughter, Kymber Luna Bestor.
She donated her body to science.
A Christmas Celebration of Life ceremony is being planned for her at the Heritage Event Center in Cresco, Iowa, on Dec. 22.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, her wish was for donations to go to her special country church, Zion United Methodist or to a local Hospice program.
