Wayne Phillip Iverson, 84, of Rochester, died peacefully of natural causes on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at his home.

He was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Peterson, to Ingvald and Laura Benston Iverson.

He married Marjorie Sonnenberg on Feb. 22, 1958, in Rochester. He farmed for many years in the Peterson area, before moving to Rochester in 1984 where he worked in building maintenance.

He was on the Peterson School Board for 16 years and was on the Arendahl Township Board for 28 years. He also helped start the rural Lanesboro Fire Department.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and had his pilot's license and loved to fly. He was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church, the Eagles Club, the VFW and 40/8.

He also loved caning chairs and fishing trips to Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Marge of 58 years; daughter, Lori (Mike) Jergenson of Chatfield; sons, Thomas (Karla) Iverson of Minnetrista and David Iverson of Minneapolis. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Heather and Stefanie Jergenson and Seth Iverson; and great-grandchildren, Dillon Jergenson and Abby Westergard.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lynn and sister-in-law, Alice.

The memorial service for was held Thursday, Aug. 21, at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Shelley Cunningham officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.
