Taylor Case got her 1,000th kill against Rosemount in the second match of the Wabasha-Kellogg Vets Tournament last Saturday. The Falcons went 4-2 in the tournament and finished second to Rosemount.

Both of Fillmore Central's losses in the Vets Tournament were to the Irish. Rosemount has a honorable mention listing in the latest Class AAA volleyball poll. The Falcons are currently ranked eighth in Class A in the Sept. 17 poll.

In the W-K tournament, Fillmore Central got wins over Durand, Wis. (2-0; 25-10, 25-8), Goodhue (2-0; 25-18, 25-21), Dover-Eyota (2-0; 25-9, 25-18) and Kenyon-Wanamingo (2-0; 25-22, 25-13). The Falcons lost to Rosemount (2-0; 11-25, 18-25) in pool play and to the Irish (2-1; 22-25, 25-10, 12-15) in tournament play, to finish in second place.

Last Thursday, Fillmore Central traveled to Wabasha-Kellogg for a Three Rivers Conference match, and came away with a 3-0 sweep. Set (game) scores in the TRC win were 25-14, 25-16 and 25-23. The Falcons are currently 3-0 in TRC play. Chatfield is 4-0 and sits on top of the conference, one-half game ahead of the local Falcons.

Unofficial stats for the W-K match: Leah Scheevel (9 kills, one ace block), Taylor Case (11 kills, one ace block), Tori Peterson (8 kills), Sammi Bakke (6 kills), Morgan Malley (2 kills, one ace block), Larissa Armstrong (1 kill), Tayah Barnes (1 kill) and Kaitlyn Aug (2 kills).

Highlights of W-K match....Set one: Barnes was eight for eight in serving with three ace serves. FC was down 2-1 early, but went ahead 16-9 after one service round. Case had five kills in the first set. Set two: Armstrong had five service points, including one ace. The southern Falcons only led 10-9 after the first service rotation, but pulled ahead in the second rotation. Case had four kills and an ace block, Bakke had three kills and Peterson and Scheevel had two kills each. Set three: Scheevel led the team with five kills, with Peterson adding four. Aug had a pair of kills. This was the only set that went beyond two service rotations. Fillmore Central got a bit nervous, in anticipation of the sweep and committed four service errors. Score was tied at 22-22 and then FC scored three of the next four points for the win, and the match.

Tuesday night the Falcons hosted Southland and Thursday they will entertain the St. Charles Saints. Friday and Saturday the Falcons will participate in the Class A Showcase in Burnsville (Midwest Volleyball Warehouse).
